One Volunteer picks up soup at the designated restaurant, please check online schedule
We are located at Christ's Lutheran Church 26 Mill Hill Road, Woodstock, next to Bread Alone We are upstairs in the Fellowship Hall. 679-2336 Answer 'Christ's Church' for incoming calls
The Church phone will only dial 911, so bring your cell phone!
One volunteer will meet at Church Hall @ 4 pm to open up, one volunteer to pick up soup
Volunteers please sign into the log book, which is to the left of the refrigerator
The small drawer under the log book has dry cloth napkins and aprons to use while volunteering
Coffee: Coffee takes about 30 minutes to brew, please start coffee before setting up
Find coffee in the refrigerator, coffee makers to the left of the inside cut-out window
There is usually a serving table in front of that kitchen window, in the main room.
Plug in coffee maker there. For
30 Cups of water, ADD 1˝ Measuring cups of coffee
36 Cups of water, ADD 2 Measuring cups of coffee
Set up tables and chairs, and leave up at the end of your shift.
Set up or check for two serving tables, one for soup & coffee pot; one for bread, snacks and juices
These are set up in the main room, near the inside kitchen window, next to outlet for coffee
Set up 4 tables for our guests to eat at, with only 4 to 6 chairs at each table, leave room
In the kitchen are bread baskets, juice, butter, peanut butter & dry milk
Baskets are over the stove. Line with napkins for the bread
The drawer to the left of the sink has salt and pepper & small pitchers & bowls
Mix dry milk with water for coffee. All supplies for this are in the kitchen, pitchers & dry milk
The second set of double doors on the right side of the main room (& on the right side of these double doors) are all juices and food items, peanut butter, jelly, hot sauce, sugar, extra dry milk On left side of these doors are all disposables; plates, cups, napkins, utensils, takeouts & lids
Put salt, pepper and hot sauce (*open ones in refrigerator) on each table
Slice bread, if needed, and place in paper napkin lined baskets. Place on side serving table
Place butter, peanut butter and jelly in plastic bowls with real knives. The plastic knives will break. Knives are in a marked drawer in kitchen, near the inside cut-out window.
Place plastic teaspoons, etc in paper lined baskets on main serving table
Count how many empty soup bowls you place on the main serving table. You serve the soup!
Each bowl of soup counts as a serving and 2nd & 3rd helpings are counted!
The thermometer is in a blue basket, on the shelf to the left of the sink.
Take the temperature of the soup and write in the logbook, what kind of soup, and where it was generously donated from. Someone must sign the log book & take soup container to next place
Place sugar bowl, milk from dry mix, spoons and put by coffee set up with cups
Put out 4 assorted juices & cups, but keep the 'tops' in the kitchen, too many juices stolen
Put out DBSK signs on the front gate. They are alongside the fridge
PLEASE remember to wash your hands and wear gloves when serving
DAILY BREAD SERVING
- If you read these pages, most or all of your questions will be answered
- Clean constantly; this will help when it's time for you to close up
- SMILE! Be friendly, helpful & kind Interact with our guests. Use your mind and your heart!
- Take turns serving the soup, share duties.
- Please don't let guests help themselves or hang out in the kitchen
- Everyone must wear shirts & shoes, no exceptions!
- Direct them to Family if needed…especially those looking for shelter
- Dining should be a family meal experience, monitor potential trouble
- Make sure everyone has enough food before you offer take-out food at 5:30
- Be careful to not let soup ladle become contaminated when refilling bowls
- Please monitor bathrooms… clean, smoke free, no showers. Direct them to Family.
- YOU are in charge. Use your common sense and compassion
- Closing & Clean Up Procedures
- Doors close promptly at 6 pm, other groups use this building
- Anyone looking foe shelter direct them to Family 679-2485
- Bring signs in from outside. Wipe down tables
- Date perishables, store in refrigerator
- Toss old butter, peanut butter & jelly that was served, use fresh daily
- Empty the Trash! Dumpster is behind the Hall, to the left of the back of building
- Dumpster Key in log book Trash bags in supply closet in main room or over the stove
- Recycling is on Wednesday. Same place as trash.
- Don't lock your stuff inside!
- Important to write down number of people…including 2nd & 3rd helpings
- Check supplies, please record needs in log book so we may replenish stock
- Wipe down tables & chairs. Sweep & mop dining area & restrooms if needed
- Look for & pick up carelessly discarded trash.
- Are bathrooms clean? Are lights off? Thermostat is now programmed, Please Do Not Touch!
- If you're coming back, wash the dish towels & return or hang up to dry along counters
- Who is taking the container to the next restaurant? Sign in please!
- If this cannot be done, please call me @ 3393595 or 246.3036 x 7333 offices
- The next Restaurant may be closed when you drop off container; Leave by kitchen door
- For leftover soup, FAMILY 6792485 will usually take it, but do not give soup to them in insulated container...use take out containers.
- Clean up is required. This is part of your service commitment, please respect this space & leave it like you would want it left for you!
- Please use compassion and common sense, your mind and heart.
